Sherfield English is an English civil parish within the district of Test Valley and the county of Hampshire
Sherfield English is a charming civil parish located in Hampshire, within the Test Valley district. Nestled between the Test Valley and the New Forest, the village lies along the historic route from Romsey to Salisbury—now known as the A27 or Salisbury Road.
Though small in size, Sherfield English boasts a surprisingly wide array of amenities. These include a village hall, sports field, shop with a Post Office, farm shop, fishing lakes, garden centre and tea rooms. It’s also home to an active church and a close-knit community.
Primarily a rural area, Sherfield English retains much of its farming heritage. Many of its homes, cottages, and farms are tucked away along quiet, leafy lanes, hidden from those simply passing through.
At the heart of the village stands St Leonard’s Church, built in 1902 by Lady Caroline Ashburton of Melchet Court, in memory of her daughter. The church features beautiful art nouveau stained glass windows, historic village stocks, a 13th-century coffin, and medieval carvings salvaged from the nearby Manor Farm church. It is also known for its particularly fine set of bells.
Today, Sherfield English is home to around 700 residents and prides itself on its strong sense of community and rural charm.
